Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では，微分トポロジー，特に特異点論とモノドロミーを用いてデータ可視化の革新的新手法の確立を目指す．具体的には，ファイバーの連結成分を記述するReeb空間を0次元ホモロジー群の図式で再解釈し，それを拡張して一般の位相不変量を考えることで，Reeb図式の概念を定式化し，データの大域構造を記述する理論的基盤を構築する．さらにデータのねじれをモノドロミーとして可視化する新手法を，情報科学者との協働により開発し，実装する．これにより，データが欠損していても可視化が可能となるなどの特性を備えたデータ可視化の革新的技法を確立して，諸科学分野での新たな発見を導く．

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

佐伯は、n次元多様体からn-1次元ユークリッド空間へのround fold map（球面状折り目写像）を詳しく調べ、そうした写像を許容する多様体の微分同相類の完全な決定と、そうした写像の右左同値による分類に成功した。特に後者は、round fold mapのモノドロミーが、曲面上のある種のモース関数を保つことを示すことが鍵となった。これにより、round fold mapのデータ可視化への応用、特にモノドロミーの可視化の可能性も開けたことになり、こうした結果を得られた意義は大きい。またn=3の場合は、既知であった単純な安定写像を許容するものと完全に一致するといった意外な結果も得ることに成功した。
また、分担者の山本は、境界付きコンパクト曲面から平面への可微分写像で、境界の近傍に特異点を持たないものについて調べ、そうした写像が２つ与えられたときに、それらが境界の近傍で非特異であるという性質を保ったまま互いに変形できるための条件を明らかにした。実データの解析や可視化の際には、データが与えられるドメインはコンパクトで境界付きの多様体となることが想定されるため、こうした結果は、そうしたデータの位相的振る舞いを記述する際に重要な役割を果たすことが期待される。
また、分担者の櫻井は、区分的線形写像を可視化するための実装に取り掛かり、可微分写像の具体的な特異点について、その近くでの写像を区分的線形写像として実現した際の可視化について、実装のための足がかりを築いた。

Reason

本研究では、データを多様体間の可微分写像の離散サンプルであると考え、微分トポロジー、特に特異点論とモノドロミーを用いてデータ可視化の革新的新手法の確立を目指すことが目的である。これまで、特異ファイバーの分類に基づいたデータ可視化手法が開発されてきているが、データの大域構造、特にそのねじれは可視化できていない。そこで本年度は、モノドロミーが重要な役割を果たすことが期待されるround fold mapという、対称性の高いジェネリックな写像の微分トポロジー的性質について研究した。特に、定義域と値域の次元差が1のときに、そうした写像を許容する多様体の微分同相類を完全に決定できたこと、そしてさらにそうした写像を自然な同値関係のもとで分類できたことは、本研究が順調に進んでいることを意味する。我々はさらにこうした結果を用いて、データのねじれをモノドロミーとして可視化する新手法を、情報科学者との協働により開発し、ユーザーインターフェースとして実装することも目指しているが、本年度は櫻井がそうした実装に着手すべく、そのためのアルゴリズム的観点からの足がかりを構築できた。以上のことから、本研究課題はおおむね順調に進展していると言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後はround fold mapだけではなく、モノドロミーが重要な役割を果たす可微分写像の研究を進め、そうした写像の不変量を探していく。それにより、より複雑な写像に対しても、モノドロミーの可視化が実行できることが期待される。また当初の計画では、ファイバーの連結成分を記述するReeb空間を0次元ホモロジー群の図式で再解釈し、それを拡張して一般次元のホモロジー群などの位相不変量を考えることで、Reeb図式の概念を定式化することも目標としてきた。今後はこの方面での研究を推進していく必要がある。これにより、写像の大域構造を記述する理論的基盤を構築することが目的である。こうした新概念は特異写像の研究において画期的なもので、多様体の新しい不変量の開発や、力学系などの他分野への応用も期待される。そこでこうした方面での研究を引き続き推進する。そのため、既存の特異ファイバーの分類によってReeb空間の局所構造を再確認し、それらの大域的つながり具合を定式化すべく、ホモロジーの自己同型写像のなす群、あるいは写像類群を有効に用いて研究を推進してゆく。
