Outline of Research at the Start

光導波路を用いたソリッドステートの集積型光メモリを実現するために挑戦する課題は、異なる原理に基づく書き込みと読み込みの動作を両立することである。そのために以下の研究計画を実施する。
・書き込みと読み出しを両立するCoFeB記録層の設計と磁気特性向上
・書き込みと読み出しを両立する光導波路構造の作製
・光信号による書き込みと読み出しの連続動作による光メモリの実証

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this research, we developed a magneto-optical memory that can be integrated on a chip using optical waveguides. We proposed a structure in which an optical waveguide for data writing and a recording layer are placed around the outer periphery of a ring resonator that serves as a data readout circuit, and clarified its feasibility through simulation. By fabricating a prototype device with one cell in the recording layer and measuring the optical transmittance of the ring resonator while applying an external magnetic field, we confirmed that the magnetization information stored in the recording layer could be extracted as the intensity ratio of the read light.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

光磁気記録を用いた光メモリはディスク型のストレージ(MOディスク)が存在するが、レンズ等の空間光学系を用いない集積可能な固定型の光磁気メモリとしては世界初の試みである。光信号を記録層の磁化として記録し、その磁化により発生した磁場で光読み出しを行う光メモリ動作を確認することに成功した。将来的な応用として、光通信のみでなく近年注目されている光コンピューティングにおいてデータを一時的に記憶する素子として応用が期待できる。
