Outline of Research at the Start

中Mn低炭素鋼に対して独自に設計した種々の加工熱処理を施すことにより、高温相であるため結晶粒超微細化が困難であった高温相オーステナイトの結晶粒超微細化に挑戦する。加工熱処理材のミクロ組織を先端的組織解析手法により観察して結晶粒超微細化の可否を確かめ、オーステナイト粒径と加工熱処理パラメータの相関を明らかにする。超微細粒オーステナイトからの相変態により得られた種々の最終組織を有する試料の力学特性に及ぼすオーステナイト粒径の影響を明らかにする。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have challenged the ultra-grain refinement of the austenite phase, which is the high-temperature phase of steels. We attempted repeated rapid heating and quenching of the martensite phase, rapid heating and rapid cooling of the specimens with low temperature microstructures after severe plastic deformation, and heavy working just above the A3 temperature, and in all cases succeeded in producing ultra fine grained austenite with average grain sizes less than 1 μm. We also applied the results to titanium alloys and pure cobalt, and succeeded in grain refinement of the high-temperature phases. We have also found that the high-temperature phases can be stabilized even at room temperatures by grain refinement in some alloys, which could improve their mechanical properties significantly.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

炭素鋼の高温相であるオーステナイトの結晶粒超微細化は、学術的にも、また将来の実用を考えた上でも意義は大きい。鋼は最も大量に用いられている重要な構造用金属材料である。鋼が重用される理由は、安価であることに加え、多様なミクロ組織に対応して幅広い強度その他の力学特性が実現できる点にある。幅広いミクロ組織は、フェライト変態、パーライト変態、マルテンサイト変態などの多様な相変態により形成されるが、これらの母相はいずれもオーステナイト相である。母相オーステナイトが結晶粒超微細化されれば、そこから生じる変態生成物の組織はさらに微細になる可能性がある。
