Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では,我々が世界で初めて単離生成を実現した新規二次元物質である硫化ホウ素シートを基軸に用い,新しい触媒材料群を創出します。金属を含まないホウ素と硫黄で構成される物質による電極触媒や熱触媒はこれまでに報告が無く,硫化ホウ素シートは新しい典型元素の触媒材料といえます。そこで本研究では,白金族などのこれまでのdバンドを主体とした遷移金属触媒とは異なる,新しい典型元素触媒群の構築を目指して硫化ホウ素シートを基盤とした高機能・高寿命触媒群の創出に挑戦します。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は,我々が世界で初めて単離生成を実現した新規二次元物質である硫化ホウ素シートを用い,新しい触媒材料群を創出することです。硫化ホウ素シートは二硫化モリブデンのモリブデン原子を二つのホウ素原子で置換した結晶構造を持つ二次元物質です。我々は菱面体硫化ホウ素という三次元結晶を劈開することで創出に成功しました。これまでの研究から菱面体硫化ホウ素はグラフェンと混合することでアルカリ中での水電解における酸素生成反応に対する触媒として、市販のRuO2を上回る世界最高活性の性能を示すことを見出しました。さらに、ニッケルフォームという担体を合わせて用いると、100時間以上高出力運転させても安定であることも見出しました。X線光電子分光、赤外吸収分光、ラマン散乱、走査電子顕微鏡観察、X線回折などを触媒の使用前後で行った結果、電極触媒として使用後も菱面体硫化ホウ素は安定であることも明らかとなりました。また、菱面体硫化ホウ素は可視~紫外線照の幅広い波長範囲の光に対して、それぞれ水を分解して水素を発生させることが可能であることも見出しました。紫外線の場合は量子効率が1.8%であることも明らかにしました。さらに、二酸化炭素の還元、色素の酸化反応に対しても紫外線照射による光触媒機能があることを見出しました。一方で、光触媒として菱面体硫化ホウ素を用いた場合は、徐々に劣化が起きることもわかりました。これに対しては菱面体硫化ホウ素に助触媒を加えることが劣化を抑えるのに有効であることがわかりました。

Reason

硫化ホウ素シートがグラフェンと混合することでアルカリ中での水電解における酸素生成反応に対する触媒として、市販のRuO2を上回る世界最高活性の性能を示すことを見出したことに加え、可視~紫外線照の幅広い波長範囲の光に対して、それぞれ水を分解して水素を発生させることが可能であることも見出したため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き他の触媒性能の有無を調べます。特に熱触媒としての機能についてまだ調べていないため、明らかにしていく予定です。
