Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、トポロジカルな性質を有する高温原子層超伝導体を用いて基板界面を磁性元素で修飾することにより、高密度マヨラナ格子を創製することに挑戦する。研究代表者がこれまで研究してきた単層FeSeはSrTiO3(STO)基板上に成長させることで40-109Kという高い転移温度を示す。本研究ではこれを踏まえ、まず単層Fe(Se,Te)/STOのトポロジカル超伝導としての特性を実験的に明らかにする。さらに、自己組織化によって磁性元素で修飾されたSTO表面を基板として単層Fe(Se,Te)を成長することで、無磁場下でトポロジカル超伝導体に特徴的なマヨラナ状態を高密度で生成することを目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we aimed to generate a high density of Majorana states, which are candidates for quantum bits and have potential applications in quantum computers. For this purpose, atomic layer thin films consisting of Fe, Se and Te were fabricated and their quantum properties were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements, in which each individual atom can be identified. In the single-layer FeTe thin film, the magnetic properties of the Fe atoms modulated by the SrTiO3 substrate were observed. Based on this, a FeSe0.5Te0.5 thin film, which is expected to be in the Majorana state, was fabricated and found to possess the properties of high-temperature superconductivity.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究によって、将来のトポロジカル量子コンピューター作製のための舞台となりうる単層のFeSe0.5Te0.5薄膜が高温超伝導を示すことが明らかになった。この成果はこの物質を用いたトポロジカル計算技術の確立への基盤となるものである。さらに二層以上のFeSe0.5Te0.5薄膜についてもトポロジカルな性質と磁石の性質が共存していることが明らかになり、これは基礎科学としても興味深いのみならず、量子物性を活かした新たなデバイス展開に向けた重要な知見であると思われる。
