Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
We proposed an ultra-sensitive absorption spectroscopy technique for single nanoparticles based on a novel principle that utilizes the optical force generated by the change in photon momentum in resonant absorption, which is completely different in concept from conventional spectroscopy techniques observing light energy. This technique is based on the fact that the microscopic motion (wavefunction) of electron within a nanoparticle appears as the macroscopic motion of the nanoparticle through the optical force caused by resonant absorption, which can realize quantitative analysis of the optical excitation process from the measurement of particle motion. Optical force nano-spectroscopy, based on our unique idea, is the method for directly observing the resonant absorption process, and as it is a background-free null-method, which makes it possible to achieve ultra-high sensitivity.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
