Outline of Research at the Start

申請者は現在までの研究でフィールド由来の蚊コロニーから犬糸状虫を媒介しない蚊を遺伝学的に分離する手法を発見した。本研究ではこの発見を基盤とし、日本に生息するベクター蚊から、犬糸状虫を媒介しない蚊を遺伝学的に分離する。これらの蚊コロニー群を用いて「フィラリア非媒介蚊バイオリソース」を構築し病原体を媒介しない蚊による犬糸状虫症の制御に向けた学術基盤を創出することを目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Canine filariasis is the most important parasitic disease in companion animals. Although prophylactic drugs exist, the emergence of prophylaxis-resistant canine filariasis has become a problem. We have focused on the control of canine filariasis transmitted by mosquitoes. We have previously shown that a filarial resistance phenotype exists and is inherited in the Aedes aegypti. In this study, we demonstrated the existence of a genetic phenomenon of the resistance phenotype in other species of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes. Further progress in this study is expected to lead to the realization of filarial control by pathogen-free mosquitoes.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

一般に犬のフィラリアと知られている犬糸状虫症は予防薬耐性の拡大が懸念されているため、抜本的に対策が望まれる。我々は予防薬に依存しないフィラリア対策開発のため、病原体を媒介しない蚊に注目している。本研究ではヤブカでフィラリアを媒介しない蚊を遺伝子組換えに依らずに創り出すことが可能であることを明らかにした。本研究の更なる進展により病原体を媒介しない蚊によるフィラリア症の制御に繋がることが期待される。
