(2) A Forgotten Life of the Buddha: The Vajrapani-Buddhacarita in its Tocharian B and Chinese Versions with Loukota. (3) Tocharian Fachsprache in the Medical, Magical and Legal Context. I have published two papers: (1) Meng and Pan 2022. The Vyaghri-story in Xinjiang A new textual version rediscovered in Tocharian. (2) Pan 2023. Study of Tocharian Abhidharma Texts.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I have been working on the Tocharian fragments related to the research project, especially the scholastic texts. The relevant Tocharian texts are re-edited and translated into English with detailed philological and buddhological commentary. In addition to the computer-assisted philological investigation, linguistic and etymological analysis of modified Tocharian lexemes are performed. Research concerning Tocharian Buddhism and Buddhist terminology continues as well. And I am now preparing two papers on Tocharian lexicon and etymology.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
For FY 2023 I will keep working on the Tocharian scholastic texts, as well as Tocharian Buddhism and Buddhist terminology. Two papers will be published: (1) Pan, Tao. 2023. Comparative Study of Tocharian Rama Story. In an upcoming Festschrift. (in English). (2) Pan, Tao. 2023. Tocharian B ore (plural wrenta) and Nominal Reduplication in Tocharian and PIE. Indogermanische Forschungen 128 (forthcoming). (in English)
