| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は，ローマ帝政初期に活動したラテン詩人オウィディウス（前43-後18）の『恋の技術』及び『恋の治療法』における「環」のモチーフの諸相を明らかにすることを目指すものである．「恋の技術」と「恋から抜け出る技術」を主題化するという特異なスタンスで書かれたこの二作は，恋愛詩や教訓詩（知識の伝授という形式で詩を綴るジャンル）の伝統を汲んで書かれた分野横断的な作品である．本研究は，こうした複雑な性格を持つ『恋の技術』と『恋の治療法』を捉える手がかりとして「環」のモチーフに着目し，文芸批評的な見地にとどまらず本文批判的な問題にも目を配る多角的なアプローチを試みる．

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, I investigated and analyzed the motifs of the 'circle (orbis)' as represented in various forms in Ovid's "Ars amatoria" and 'Remedia amoris'. I elucidated how the motifs, such as the paretymological connection between 'world or circle (orbis)' and 'city (urbs)', and the ring-composition structure, contribute to the development of the central idea of love as a 'game', which is staged within the framework of the 'circular world - city - and theatre'.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
恋愛詩や専門知識を主題とする教訓詩（didactic poetry）といった既存のジャンルを自由に横断しつつパロディを交えて創作を行なうオウィディウスという詩人を理解するにあたりキーとなる『恋の技術』という作品について，個別の語彙のみならず叙述の構造にも着目しつつ彼の詩的技法を明らかにすることができた．また本文の一部について写本の読みの有力さを改めて論じるなど新しい提案を行なった．
