本研究は、日本中世天台宗の僧侶・慈円著述の歴史書『愚管抄』の諸本分類を通じて善本を見出す基礎的研究であるとともに、本文史・伝来史を解明する享受史的研究でもある。『愚管抄』の内容分析においては、豊富な研究蓄積があるものの、基礎的かつ享受史的研究に限っては半世紀余りほとんど進展が見られない上に、見過ごしがたい根本的な誤りも認められる。すなわち本研究は『愚管抄』研究の基盤を固めつつ、中近世における読者の歴史をも見出すものである。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we organized and categorized various books (multiple manuscripts) of the history book "Gukansho" written by Jien (1155-1225), a Buddhist monk of the Tendai sect in medieval Japan. We were able to encourage a reconsideration of good manuscripts that are thought to preserve the original text (main text) and begin the basic work of selecting a new base manuscript (a reliable manuscript that will serve as a standard for research). In addition, we were able to develop the possibility of historical enjoyment research (research that elucidates the history of readers) that elucidates the history of the text (the history of changes in the text) and transmission history (the history of the owners of the manuscript).

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では、以下三点の問題解明に取り組んだ。①『愚管抄』の写本はいかに分類が可能か、いかなる伝本系統図が描けるか、②『愚管抄』の古い姿を多くとどめているのはどの写本なのか、③『愚管抄』はどのように読まれ・伝来したのか。上記三点を考察する意義は、中世文学史・思想史を究明する上で必読文献である『愚管抄』の研究基盤を構築する点に認められる。『愚管抄』の基礎的研究に限っては半世紀余りほぼ進展が見られず、近年の坂口太郎氏（高野山大学）の研究によってようやく光が当てられた分野である。本研究は氏の研究を承け『愚管抄』研究の基盤を固めつつ、中近世における読者の歴史をも見出すことを目指したものである。
