| Outline of Research at the Start |
環境教育における森林体験学習は自然への愛着の醸成を狙う場合が多い。ただし、自然への愛着の醸成は短期的な体験学習のみでは完結せず、その後も学習者に森林接触機会があるかでその効果には差が生じ得る。森林体験学習に際し、その効果を高める知見として、学習者の身近に継続的に森林に触れられる場があることの影響を検証する必要がある。そこで、本研究は、学校周辺に身近な森林が存在するようになったことが学習者の自然への愛着の醸成にどう影響するかを検証する。都内・地方大学生を対象に心理測定尺度質問紙を用いた1年間の縦断調査を行い、森林が身近にある大学への移動を契機に、学生のその後の自然への愛着の醸成過程を解明する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Using a nature attachment scale developed from previous research, we conducted a longitudinal survey of first-year students at both urban and regional universities in spring, fall, and winter of 2023. The results indicated that attachment to nature comprises four components: a strong sense of belonging to nature, place identity, awe, and avoidance. A decline in belonging was observed among students who moved from rural to urban areas, while feelings of awe increased among those in urban settings. Although avoidance generally decreased, neither residential forest coverage nor migration status had a significant effect on this trend. These findings suggest that changes in the natural environment surrounding learners influence their sense of belonging and awe toward nature, providing foundational insights for designing learning environments that incorporate natural elements.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、森林体験に活用できる場が学校の身近にあることは学習者の自然への愛着醸成にどのような影響を与えるかという「問い」に基づくものである。身近に森林があり自然への愛着を育みやすい場に学校がある者には短期的な森林体験でも効果が生じるが、森林へのアクセスがしにくい都市部の学校に通う者に対しては、強固な自然への帰属意識を育むことを念頭に森林体験の内容、期間、頻度を検討しなければならないことが本研究から示唆された。本研究の成果は、学校所在地別の学習者の自然への愛着を事前に把握することで、その後の森林体験学習をより効果的に実施・計画することに貢献するための知見を提供している。
