Outline of Research at the Start

Aquaculture has shown the highest growth among food production sectors. As many aquaculture species show sexual dimorphisms, it is hoped to exploit the sex differences by using genetic markers associated with the sex-determining (SD) gene. In this project, we will characterize SD region of two fishes, Genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT) tilapia and stinging catfish, that are important in South Asia.
