Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The aim was to identify whether the same biases are involved when the out-group members are not easily perceptible, and to better clarify the role played by stereotypes vs. perceptibility of the social groups. Different approaches were used to associate the target faces with a fictive sexual orientation (e.g. short stories or priming). The results obtained were quite ambiguous and not very strong, but the results were published as a conference paper. Although preliminary, the results obtained suggest that fictive sexual orientation alone is not enough to induce in-group bias in the experimental paradigms used. Altogether, these results, contribute to the understanding of how humans judge persons' characteristics from faces, as well as the potential biases that may result.
