Outline of Research at the Start

硫黄原子(S)および第Ⅴ族遷移金属原子(M=V, Nb, Ta)を基軸とした原子層遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイド(TMD)薄膜の電子状態を角度分解光電子分光法(ARPES)により決定することを目的として、分子線エピタキシー(MBE)-トポタクティック法による高品質な原子層TMD薄膜を作製する。また、MBE-トポタクティック法によりS原子で部分置換したMSyX2-y(X=Se, Te, 0≦y≦2)および2種類の異なるカルコゲン層で構成された原子層ヤヌスTMDを作製し、ARPESによる電子状態を明らかにするとともに空間反転対称性の破れと超伝導・電荷密度波の関係性を解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年は、MBE法とトポタクティック法(MBE-トポタクティック法)を組み合わせることで、2層グラフェン/シリコンカーバイド(SiC)基板上に、VTe2、VS2、NbTe2やNbS2を中心とした原子層遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイド(TMD)薄膜を作製しおよびこれらの角度分解光電子分光法(ARPES)による電子構造評価を行った。本年度は、ARPESと第一原理計算を複合的に用いることで、MBE-トポタクティック法で作製したこれらの薄膜試料の精密な結晶構造・電子構造評価について、硫黄(S)原子を基軸とした原子層TMD薄膜の電子物性解明を目的に研究を行なった。
とりわけ、単層VS2においては、ARPESと第一原理計算の結果を比較することにより、正八面体構造(1T)を持つ単層VS2に由来した電子状態を観測し、トポタクティック法を用いることで単層1T-VS2薄膜の作製に初めて成功した。さらに、放射光源をマイクロメートルスケールまで集光したマイクロARPES装置を用いることで、フェルミ準位(EF)近傍の電子状態において電荷密度波(CDW)に由来したエネルギーギャップを観測することに成功した。単層VS2のCDWの起源について明らかにするために、ARPES、STMと第一原理計算を複合的に用いることで、CDW発現機構として複数のフェルミ面ネスティングが寄与していることを見出し、原子層TMDにおける複数のフェルミ面ネスティングとCDWの関係性を初めて実験的に示した。これらの単層VS2に関する研究成果については、nature姉妹紙であるnpj 2D material and applicationに出版し、プレスリリースを行なった。
