Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、最新かつ最大の多波長データと様々な望遠鏡での追観測・アーカイブデータによる遠方宇宙の調査を通して、宇宙の初期において銀河がどのように環境から影響を受け始めたのかを解明することを目的とする。まずHSC-SSPに基づく史上最大の高品質画像データをもとに銀河のサイズ測定を行い、銀河の性質の環境依存性が生じた原因を探る。加えて、これまで未発見の星形成を終えようとしている銀河で構成された原始銀河団の探査を最新の多波長カタログから行う。最後にそれらの領域の追観測をもとに宇宙初期の原始銀河団が現在の銀河団へどのように成長したのか明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、研究実施計画で掲げていた「星形成を終えようとしている静かな銀河による原始銀河団探査」、「銀河のサイズにおける環境依存性と環境効果が生じた原因の調査」に関連してジェームズウェッブ宇宙望遠鏡NIRCamの画像に基づく遠方(赤方偏移3-5)にある星形成を終えようとしている静かな銀河の形態調査を行った。この赤方偏移帯で初めてこの銀河種族の一般的な大きさ、形態を評価し、星形成を終えようとしている静かな銀河は近傍の同種族より小さい一方、バルジと呼ばれる構造はすでに存在することを確認した。
また、昨年度星形成を終えようとしている静かな銀河による原始銀河団を1領域発見したが、サンプルを増やしより一般的な描像に迫るため、ケック望遠鏡MOSFIREによる追分光観測を別の1領域に対して行った。現在データ解析中であり、2024年度中に報告し、この原始銀河団種族、そして内部の銀河の一般的な性質に迫りたいと考えている。
これらの研究成果や以前の成果を元に、2023年度は国際学会における発表を5件、国内学会における発表を1件行った。

Reason

JWSTによる星形成を終えようとした静かな銀河の形態評価という研究計画の内容から発展した研究を行うことができた。この結果は2024年度に銀河のサイズの環境依存性を理解するのに活かされると考えている。一方で、静かな銀河による原始銀河団の多波長観測における評価は2023年度には行うことができなかった。銀河のサイズの環境依存性と合わせて、2024年度に進めていきたい。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2024年度はまず2023年度に行った静かな銀河による原始銀河団の観測結果をまとめ、論文として報告する予定である。これらの原始銀河団の多波長観測における評価はJWSTなどの望遠鏡に観測提案書を提出し、進めていく。また、2023年度に行った形態調査の手法を活かして、「銀河のサイズにおける環境依存性と環境効果が生じた原因の調査」を行っていきたい。
