Outline of Research at the Start

高齢者に対する偏見は高齢者の精神的健康状態の悪化につながることから、その改善に向けた実証研究の重要性が高まっている。社会心理学における先行研究では、高齢者という「よく知らない人々」に関する情報提示や、世代を超えた交流を基に態度変容を促す試みが実施されてきた。そこには高齢者を暗黙裏に「我々とは異なる外集団」と位置づける視座が存在する。しかし高齢者は、誰もがいつか所属する集団であるという点で、人種・性的少数派等のいわゆる「外集団」として偏見の問題が検討されてきた集団とは異なる。本研究では、上述の観点を取り入れた態度変容方略を考案することで、高齢者に対する態度の改善に寄与する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、高齢者への否定的態度に関して、日本人の若者および高齢者の双方を対象としたオンライン調査・実験を複数実施した。そもそも、高齢者という社会集団は (1) 誰もがいつか所属する、(2) 病気と結びついて認知されやすいという点で、人種的・性的マイノリティといった集団とは大きく異なる。本研究では、(1) の特徴に着目し、高齢者になるまでの主観的時間 (高齢者になるのはどのくらい先のことであると感じるか) と高齢者に対する否定的態度の関連について検討した。具体的には、ステレオタイプ・エンボディメント理論と関連する複数の実証的知見に関する説明文を提示することで、高齢者になるまでの主観的時間が短くなり、高齢者に対する態度が肯定化した。また、(2) の特徴に着目し、参加者に対して、高齢者は病気に罹りやすく不健康であるというステレオタイプの是正を目指した説明文を提示することで、高齢者に対する否定的態度が軽減した。今後、高齢者に対する否定的態度の軽減方略を、より実践的に利用しやすい形に改善するための研究を行う必要がある。ところで、高齢者への否定的態度に関する研究では、若者の態度が実際に高齢者に及ぼす影響について検討することも重要である。本研究では、「高齢者は地位や財産を若者に譲るべきである」といった規範的ステレオタイプに着目し、周囲からの規範的ステレオタイプを強く感じている高齢者ほど、抑うつ傾向が高いことを示した。今後、高齢者に対する否定的態度が高齢者に及ぼす影響についても引き続き検討し、若者および高齢者を対象とした実証的知見について統合的に整理する試みが求められる。
