Outline of Research at the Start

微生物やその内部で機能するタンパク質は、微小サイズの機械(マイクロマシン)として物理的な理解が進められている。このような微小な物体の運動は大きな物体と異なり、確率的な振る舞いを示す。そこで、本研究課題ではマイクロマシンの機能に関してゆらぎが果たす役割を理解することを目的とする。この研究課題では非平衡統計力学や流体力学、確率過程などに立脚しマイクロマシンの理論モデルを構築し、解析することで、振る舞いを理解する。この課題で得られた基礎的な結果は将来的に人工的なマイクロマシンの設計に貢献することが期待できる。さらに、課題を通じて流体力学や確率論における数理的な発展も期待される。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

大腸菌や蛋白質分子などのマイクロマシンは化学反応によってエネルギーを取り出し、推進などの機能を発揮する。該当年度は、1つ目の研究として、「奇弾性」によるマイクロマシンのモデル化を行い、その統計的性質や流体との相互作用について調べた。そのために、奇弾性を含む流体構造連成力学を提案し、物体の構造に起因する非線形流体効果を取り入れた。その結果、流体中の奇弾性体は自発的に非相反な変形挙動を示すことがわかり、流体の非線形性が運動の安定性に重要であることがわかった。これによって、生物の遊泳挙動も奇弾性で表現できることが示唆され、実際に精子の観察結果から奇弾性を定量化することに成功した。これらの研究結果はPRX Life誌に掲載された。加えて、この奇弾性遊泳モデルの研究に関してアメリカ物理学会のMarch Meetingにて招待講演を行った。該当年度に行った2つ目の研究として、Onsager-Machlup積分による奇弾性ランジュバンダイナミクスの遷移過程の解析を行った。奇弾性ランジュバンダイナミクスでは、酵素分子の構造変化などのエネルギー注入を伴う確率過程を記述できる。奇弾性ランジュバンダイナミクスはその非平衡性から、ダイナミクスの不可逆性がモデルの特徴付けに重要である。そこで、本研究では不可逆性をOnsager-Machlup積分を用いて定量化し、そのキュムラント母関数を経路積分法と鞍点近似によって計算した。その結果、奇弾性によって高次のキュムラントが導かれ、系の不確定性に大きく寄与していることがわかった。
