Outline of Research at the Start

一般相対論は太陽系のような弱重力場において精密に検証されてきたが、今後の重力波によるブラックホールのような強重力場の現象の観測においては一般相対論では説明できない現象の発見が期待されている。従って、一般相対論を超える重力理論を研究することは喫緊の課題である。本研究では、スカラー自由度を一つ含んだ拡張重力理論の最も一般的な枠組みに基づいて、ブラックホール由来の重力波の理論予言を行う。これにより、今後の重力波観測の結果を用いて強重力場における物理を包括的に探査するための理論的基盤の確立を目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

将来の重力波の観測によって、一般相対論では説明できないような観測結果が報告される可能性が高いことを考えると、一般相対論を超える重力理論を研究することは喫緊の課題である。このような動機から、これまでさまざまな拡張重力理論が提案されてきた。これらの理論はいずれも、計量テンソル以外に新たな自由度を導入することにより、一般相対論を拡張したものと理解することができる。このような拡張重力理論において普遍的に成り立つ性質を捉えるべく、計量に加えスカラー場を一つだけ含んだ重力理論であるスカラーテンソル理論が特に詳しく研究されてきた。
研究代表者は、スカラー場の高階微分まで含んだ変数変換を用いて、高階微分に伴う不安定性を回避可能なスカラーテンソル理論の枠組みを大幅に拡張することに成功した。この理論が現実の宇宙に存在する物質場と整合的に結合できるかを議論し、宇宙論観測による重力理論の検証に堪え得る理論のサブクラスを特定した。また、宇宙論の文脈で模型の詳細によらない定式化としてしばしば用いられるインフレーション/ダークエネルギーの有効理論を上記理論を含むよう拡張し、宇宙論的摂動の定式化を行った。
一方でこのような変数変換は、拡張重力理論における厳密解の生成手法としても有用である。研究代表者は、パリティ対称性を破るような可逆な共形変換が可能であることを示し、それを一般相対論における回転ブラックホール解 (Kerr時空) に適用することで、パリティを破る相互作用を含んだ重力理論における厳密な回転ブラックホール解を得ることに成功した。また、得られた時空における粒子の運動についても調べ、Kerr時空と観測的に区別可能であることを示した。
