電子運動に駆動される磁気リコネクションの微視的物理過程と電磁場構造に関する研究

Outline of Research at the Start

磁気リコネクションにおける電子ダイナミクスの理解のため、高出力レーザーを用いた模擬実験を行う。微視的な電子・イオンの運動を協同トムソン散乱を用いて計測し、反平行な磁場配位に対応する電流シート、リコネクションの結果生じたアウトフロー等をとらえる。イオンビームを用いた電磁場のイメージング計測により巨視的な磁場トポロジーの時間的変化をとらえる。磁気プローブによりリコネクションの結果生じたプラズモイドや電子スケールの電磁場揺動を測る。これらによって、微視的な電子のダイナミクスが巨視的な磁気リコネクションを駆動することを実験的に明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

電子運動に駆動される磁気リコネクションの実験研究に取り組んだ。磁場強度を制御することで磁場と電子のみが相互作用しイオンとは相互作用しない系を作り、磁気リコネクションを駆動する実験を行った。磁気リコネクションが起こった領域を協同トムソン散乱で局所計測することで、磁気リコネクションの結果生じたアウトフローを直接計測した。このアウトフローにイオンは含まれない電子だけのアウトフローであり、その速度は電子Alfven速度程度であった。また、磁気プローブで磁場を計測することで、磁気リコネクションによって磁場構造が変化したことを示す磁場の反転と、磁気リコネクションが起こる領域から飛来するwhistler波 (電子スケールの波動) を検出した。これらの結果を総合すると、磁気リコネクションが電子のダイナミクスにより駆動され、その結果上流の磁場エネルギーが電子アウトフローの運動エネルギーに開放されることがわかった。これは磁気リコネクションのイオンが磁化しないミクロなスケールにおけるエネルギー変換過程を実験的に明らかにしたことを意味する [K. Sakai et al., Sci. Rep. (2022)]。whistler波は磁気リコネクションによって生成された電子アウトフローのエネルギーが運動論的な不安定性で波動のエネルギーに変換された結果だと考えられるが、どのメカニズムで波動が励起されたのかは未解明である。実験的に不安定性による波動励起を検証するため、非平衡プラズマ中の協同トムソン散乱を用いて計測する手法を理論・シミュレーションを用いて検討した [K. Sakai et al., Phys. Plasmas (2020, 2023)]。
