Outline of Research at the Start

ヒトの体幹筋は日常生活からスポーツ活動に至るまであらゆる運動において身体を支える役割を担う。例えば、前方に上肢を挙げる単純動作でさえ、上肢運動に協調して体幹筋が姿勢保持をすることで、初めて遂行可能となる。この場合、動作の意識は上肢を挙げることにあり、体幹筋の活動は意識されることはない。それにもかかわらず、体幹筋は上肢の運動に協調し、適切なタイミング・強さで活動する。本研究では、こうした円滑な上肢-体幹筋の協調運動を制御する神経メカニズムを経頭蓋磁気刺激(TMS)などの神経生理学的手法を用いて解明することを目指す。さらに、得られた基礎知見を応用し、新たなリハビリテーションの開発を試みる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は4月から6月にかけ、ブレイン・コンピュータ・インターフェース(brain computer interface: BCI)と機能的電気刺激(functional electrical stimulation: FES)を組み合わせた介入法を用いた実験の準備を進めていた。年度途中で現在の職を辞職することが決まったため、研究の中断をした。昨年度から引き続き行なっているBCI-FES研究については基盤技術の開発および予備実験が済んでいるため、今後、それらの技術を用いて新たな研究を開始することを目指している。
BCI-FESの介入効果を検証するために使用予定であった経頭蓋磁気刺激(transcranial magnetic stimulation: TMS)による異なる筋間の神経的結合性の評価に関する研究は研究成果を論文としてまとめ、現在国際学術誌への投稿準備を行なっている。
FESに関しては、皮質脊髄路興奮性や脊髄興奮性を効果的に変調させる最適な刺激周波数を検討するために、さまざまな刺激周波数を用いたFES介入が神経興奮性に及ぼす影響を調べた。これらの結果は2023年9月にシンガポールで行われるInternational Functional Electrical Stimulation Societyで発表することが決まっている。
研究期間全体を通してBCI-FESに関する基盤技術を構築することができた。研究期間途中で異動が決まったため、早期に本研究を中断することになったが、これまでに得られた知見をもとに更なる発展研究が可能であると考えている。
