Outline of Research at the Start

リンは植物の光合成速度を制御する重要な元素だが、リンによる光合成速度の制御機構の全貌はよく分かっていない。葉内のリン分配様式が光合成速度と関わるが、一般理論を構築できていないことが一つの理由である。本研究では、土壌リン欠乏が卓越するオーストラリア大陸をモデルとして、葉内リン分配の土壌リン傾度に沿ったパターンを明らかにする。国際研究グループを主導して、地球規模での葉内リン分配様式と光合成動態の関係を解明し、光合成動態を説明する一般モデルの構築を試みる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

リンは植物の光合成を制御する重要な元素だが、リンによる光合成速度の制御機構の全貌はよく分かっていない。葉内のリン分配様式が光合成速度と関わるが、リン分配の制御理論を構築できていないことが一因である。本プロジェクトでは次の３つの研究課題を設定し、この問題の解決に取り組んだ。（課題１）多様なリン肥沃度の土壌が分布するオーストラリア大陸をモデルとして、樹木葉内のリン分配様式の土壌リン肥沃度に沿ったパターンを解明する;（課題２）九州大学をはじめ、マッコーリー大学、シドニー大学、西シドニー大学、西オーストラリア大学、蘭州大学（中国）などを含む国際ワーキンググループを立ち上げ、地球規模で葉内のリン分配様式を一般化する；（課題３）コスト最小化理論に基づいたリンによる光合成制御の新たな理論を構築し、窒素分配様式との関係を組み込んだ光合成モデルの構築を目指す。
３年目である本年度は、これまでに収集したデータの解析と論文の執筆を中心に研究を進めた。豪州の土壌リン肥沃度が異なる３サイトからの計３５樹種の葉内のリン分配データを解析した結果（課題１）、低リン土壌ほど葉内に無機態として貯蔵されているリンや遺伝子発現に関わる核酸態のリンが低いことが明らかになった。光合成のリン利用効率が高い樹種ほど膜構造を構成する脂質態へのリン分配率が低いことも示された。また、葉の窒素濃度が高い樹種ほど核酸態リンの濃度が高いことも明らかになった。本成果は、国際誌（査読有）に１報の筆頭論文として発表された。
地球規模解析については（課題２及び３）、コロナウイルスの流行による都市封鎖によって研究活動が大きく制限されたため、完成には至らなかった。しかし、中国や豪州の研究者と共同研究を開始し、現在、１報の共著論文を執筆中である。
