Outline of Research at the Start |
My research looks at the effect uncontested elections have on different measurements of the quality of democracy. It looks at how uncontested elections in Japanese local elections impacts factors such as legislator behavior, municipal fiscal performance and voters evaluations of politics.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Firstly, in 2023 I conducted a survey where I compared the political attitudes of voters that lived in cities that had had uncontested mayoral elections and those that had competitive elections. I will submit the paper to a journal during the summer of 2024. I also employed an RA to help me with data cleaning, preparing the survey and other. Further expenses included buying a tablet as well as printing costs from the National Diet Library (NDL), all related to the project.
