Outline of Research at the Start

コミュニケーションの手がかりとなるアイコンタクトは、乳児期から注意の定位やアイコンタクト後の社会的学習などを促進することが示されてきた。しかし、なぜアイコンタクトがこのような促進効果をもっているのかについては、神経生理学的な説明が行われてなかった。本研究では、社会的場面における報酬処理に着目し、脳波や瞳孔計測を用いて、乳児期からの社会的学習メカニズムについて解明することを目的とする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度では、成人を対象に安静時心拍変動と文脈に応じた社会的行動の関連を調べた。成人50名が参加した。本研究では、安静時心拍変動を個人がもつ自律神経系の特性の指標とした。また、表情 (笑顔、怒り顔) に対する接近回避課題を行うことで、参加者ごとの文脈に応じた適応的な社会的行動の指標とした。接近回避課題では、ブロックごとに各表情に対する反応を教示した。一致条件では、笑顔に対してジョイスティックを画面に向けて傾け、怒り顔に対してはジョイスティックを手前に傾けることが求められた。反対に、不一致条件では、笑顔に対してジョイスティックを手前に傾け、怒り顔に対してはジョイスティックを画面に向けて傾けることが求められた。その結果、安静時心拍変動は接近回避課題での反応時間の差分 (不一致条件－一致条件) を予測した。この結果から、文脈に応じた適応的な社会的行動の表出には、自律神経系の活動が関与している可能性を示した。
研究期間全体では、社会的行動の表出と自律神経系の活動の関連について、乳児期から成人まで実証データを積み重ねた。発達初期からの社会的学習に重要である視線追従行動の表出直前に乳児の心拍が増加するという現象報告を初めとし、脳波研究から他者と同じ物体を見る共同注意が乳児期から報酬的であることを報告した。また、研究期間中に渡航したロンドン大学バークベック校で行った研究では、他者の顔を見るという生後間もなくヒトが行う社会的行動が、価値駆動的であることを示した。以上の乳児を対象とした研究から、社会的行動の表出には、行動の価値計算に基づいた自律神経系の活動が関連している可能性を示唆してきた。このような知見がより複雑な社会的行動においても一貫しているかを成人研究で検討した。
