Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は魚類の中でも著しく高い形態の多様性を示すウバウオ科について分類群の形態・生態、および遺伝的特徴の包括的な把握と分類学的整理、および系統関係の解明を行い、ウバウオ科の進化史を再構成を経て、本科魚類が示す多様な表現型について、どのような順序や方向性をもって獲得されたか、獲得には何が大きく要因したのかを明らかにすることを計画している。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度はこれまで知見が乏しかった熱帯・亜熱帯域の深海および海洋島におけるウバウオ科魚類の多様性および分布状況を明らかにするため、それぞれパプアニューギニアの深海域およびフレンチポリネシアから得られた多くの標本が収蔵されているスミソニアン自然史博物館(アメリカ)、テキサスA&M大学(アメリカ)、国立台湾大学(台湾・台北)、ニュージーランド国立博物館(ニュージランド・ウェリントン)、および西オーストラリア州立博物館での標本調査を実施した。その結果、熱帯・亜熱帯域の深海におけるウバウオ科ではこれまで5種が知られていたヨザクラウバウオ属に形態・遺伝的に識別できる多数の未記載種が含まれていることが明らかとなり、本属の多様性はこれまで考えられていた以上に高いことが判明した。また、各種は異所的に分布し、それぞれの分布範囲はひじょうに狭いことが明らかになりつつある。海洋島におけるウバウオ科では同様に少なくとも2未記載種が確認され、さらにこれらの種はそれぞれ既知のいずれの属の特徴にも当てはまらないことから、さらなる研究を進めている。この他、前年度から引き続き、インド・太平洋産のウバウオ科各属を中心にマイクロCTスキャンと透明骨格標本の解剖に基づく、内部形態のデータ収取を行っており、本年度までで21属39種(インド・太平洋産のウバウオ科各属のおよそ6割)のデータが得られている。すでに十分な知見が得られている分類群については2つの国際学会において発表を行った。

本年度に訪問を予定していた海外の研究機関に訪問することが出来、これまで知見が乏しかった海域におけるウバウオ科の標本を観察出来ているため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

これまでの研究活動により、インド・太平洋産のウバウオ科魚類の分類学的問題はほぼ解決しつつある状況であるため、今後は分類学的に整理された情報に基づき、各分類群の系統関係を明らかにする。
