Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、エビ殻からキチンナノファイバーを製造し、その農産物に対する機能を評価し、農業分野での利用開発を進める。国内ではカニの漁獲量が減少傾向にある。一方、エビは陸上で養殖できるため、安定に生産できる。その様な地の利を活かして、肥料や農薬として活用できれば、大規模な利用が見込める。そこで、相手国機関と連携して、次の3点について学術研究を実施する。
1. エビ殻からのキチンナノファイバーの製造と評価
2. キチンナノファイバーの現地農産物に対する効果の検証
3. モデル化合物を用いた機能性評価と発生メカニズムの解明

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Initially, we successfully generated chitin nanofibers from black tiger shrimp, a species commonly farmed in Bangladesh. We gathered essential data on the nanofibers' shape, chemical structure, and various physical properties using a range of analytical instruments. Moreover, we enhanced the extraction method to lower production costs. Subsequently, we assessed the impact of chitin nanofibers on plants and microorganisms. In the target country, we evaluated the growth of rice that was cultivated with chitin nanofibers incorporated into the soil and collected data on soil and plant growth, focusing on growth promotion and nitrogen fertilizer replacement effects. Additionally, we synthesized oligosaccharides with varying bonding patterns using the electrolysis polymerization method applied to chitin oligosaccharides.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本共同研究では、バングラデシュで養殖されるエビ殻からキチンナノファイバーを製造し、農業分野での利用の可能性を検証してきた。これまで、食品加工場で利用されることなく廃棄されてきた大量のエビ殻が、有効活用されることにより、地域産業の振興に繋がり、持続して日本が養殖エビの恩恵を受けられるようになる。また、研究の推進により、キチンナノファイバーに関する国際的学術研究がいっそう発展するだろう。また、バングラデシュにおける未利用資源であるエビ殻を活用した新産業の創出と、それに伴う貧困や飢餓をはじめとした、SDGsに関連する課題の解決につながると期待される。
