Outline of Research at the Start

当国際共同研究では、「自然に根差した解決策（NbS）」の観点から、「生物多様性消
失」と「地球温暖化」の問題の両者解決に資する定量研究を行う。そのために、生物多様性に富み、自然の摂理の働く森林の復元と保全の実現に必要なシナリオ解析を、個体ベースのプロセスモデルiLandを活用して仮想的に実施する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

当研究グルーぷは、これまでに「樹種多様性に富む森林ほど炭素隔離と貯留を促進する」といった観察パターンの背景メカニズムを探る野外大規模実験を実施している。ここに、個体ベースのプロセスモデルを併用することで、フィールド実験だけでは不可能な空間的・時間的スケールでの樹木多様性実験をバーチャルに実施する。得られる結果により、炭素と生物多様性の保全・回復を両立させる費用対効果の高い森林再生モデルを特定し、自然生態系の機能性に基づく国際環境政策の議論の基礎となる科学的根拠を提供する。

Reason

モデルの高度化、シミュレーションの実施など、研究計画は順調に進んでいる。加えて、新たな国際共同研究の発展も複数あり、当初予定以上の進展がみられる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

仮想的な森林景観において樹木多様性実験を拡大するシミュレーションの試行を継続する。また、自身（国内）および海外の生物多様性－生態系機能の実験地の訪問、理論とモデルのすり合わせなどの国際共同研究を継続する。
