申請者は基課題によりOncocytic and chromophobe renal tumoursの代表組織型である嫌色素性腎細胞癌の解析を通じて、病理組織形態が酷似するがタンパク発現や遺伝子学的特徴が嫌色素性腎細胞癌やオンコサイトーマとは異なる腫瘍群の存在を見出し、WHO分類第5版でOther oncocytic tumours of the kidneyと分類して執筆担当した。本研究の目的は、本邦と欧州の多数例の解析によりOncocytic and chromophobe renal tumoursに属する各腫瘍群の臨床病理学的特徴と分子病理基盤の差異を明らかにし、診断や治療、予後予測に有用なマーカー同定により治療開発への道を切り拓くことである。
