Research Abstract |
In order to develop the environmentally benign chemical processes utilizing biomass derived feedstocks, especially glycerol, high performance heterogeneous catalysts were designed using metal nanoparticles and inorganic crystallites. Various organic transformations from glycerol such as hydrogenolysis to 1,3-propanediol or 1,2-propanediol, one-pot transformation to 1,3-diacetylglyceol, and condensation to cyclic acetals could be achieved using the heterogeneous catalysts. These catalysts are easily recycled without appreciable loss of their activity or selectivity.
