Research Abstract |
From analyzing RsgA-deficient Escherichia coli strain and its revertant strains, we found a function of RsgA having a GTPase activity: RsgA dissociates RbfA from the small (30S) subunit during the last stage of ribosome maturation. In addition, the roles of three ribosome maturation factors including RsgA, RbfA and RimM in the ribosome maturation process have been investigated using biochemical and structural approaches. We also found that RsgA deprivation provides resistance to osmotic (salt) stress with the cell. Resistance to osmotic (salt) stress is also provided by deprivation of other ribosome maturation factors.
