Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to reevaluate the cartographic theories of Jacques Bertin, famous french cartographer died in 2010, by the classification of his works considering the context where cartographic materials are produced and utilized by the digital process in these days. The holistic bibliography was built using ordinary information retrieval and the annual reports of the laboratory. The result of the classification of the bibliography was presented as a paper of the Cartographic Journal of UK. Importance of the distinction between monosemy and polysemy was confirmed by the observation of the ancient maps carved on rocks. It was also confirmed that Bertin's theory was rather compatible and efficient in the digital processing cartographic system. Bertin's theory is on the way to spread to the general public.
