The main theme is to obtain a general picture of how Europeans have expressed the sacred, discussing its problems in terms of the idolatry-iconoclasm controversy from the beginning of Christianity to the Medieval ages to the Reformation, and after that, to focus on its reflections in the literary works of the English poets of the 16 and 17 centuries.
The research results are being published in the form of a series of essays titled A Semiotical and Historical Study of Idolatry (5 essays already published) and an essay focused on Donne's The Flea, which I presume refers to Luther, is also published, titled Donne's The Flea and Luther's Attack on Iconoclasm.
