Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study analyzes mainly the representations of pan-Pacific travels in D. H. Lawrence’s literature. In this analysis, not only post-colonial theories or theories of travel by Edward W. Said or Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari but also structural or post-structural theories by Jacques Lacan and Slavoj Žižek are used. Furthermore, D. H. Lawrence and his modernist contemporary James Joyce are examined by the comparative method. While this examination is based on their similarities, to grasp also differences in their attitude towards travel makes it possible to bring into relief characteristics of Lawrence’s or other writers’ representations of circum-Pacific region.
