Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to (1) construct a model of the processes of engendering a feeling of ikigai from a two-dimensional perspective of time and situations (referred to hereafter as the ikigai process model), and (2) apply the model to parents to clarify the psychological processes of developing this feeling of ikigai in those who raise children. Past experimental studies and a review of the literature using a perspective incorporating both time and situations were used to construct the ikigai process model. Two scales of the ikigai process model were developed, including a scale for the processes leading toward a feeling of ikigai and a scale for the state of feeling ikigai; the reliability and validity of both were verified. In addition, the ikigai process model was applied to husbands and wives of dual-income families and those of families with full-time homemakers to examine the influence of child-rearing environments.
