Research Abstract |
This research focuses on the study of writing by prospective students and university freshmen. There are two questions specifically: One is how assignments such as essays in entrance examinations motivate prospective students to learn writing; the other is what problems students have in academic writing after entering university. By exploring these two issues, the author considers what kind of writing instruction would be effective both in high school and university so that prospective students could start learning smoothly after entering university. The author also surveys each university's practice of writing instruction for freshmen and considers their effectiveness and problems. Based on these results, the author tries to develop a method of teaching writing that targets both prospective students and university freshmen.
