Research Abstract |
Irradiation of 1-cyano-2-(5-aryl-4-alkynyl)naphthalene derivatives in benzene through Pyrex afforded benzocyclooctatetraene derivatives via [2+2] intramolecular photocycloaddition in good yields. Prolonged irradiation of this solution efficiently gave benzotriquinanes via transannular process followed by intramolecular cyclization of 1,3-biradicals. In the presence of molecular dioxygen, 1,3-biradical intermediates were trapped to give five-membered 1,2-dioxolanes.
