Research Abstract |
This study investigated a main failure form in asphalt pavements of domestic international airports and discussed a method for life extension. The field investigation on Tokyo International Airport showed that rutting damage in the taxiway near apron area was serious. To design a durable asphalt concrete, procedures for a rigid aggregate structure in asphalt mixtures were studied using classified stone particles. A guideline of design parameters and their recommended values for deciding the appropriate balance of air voids and asphalt film was suggested from the discussion.
