Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to clarify the effects of repeated usage of site for Hinoki cypress plantation on the soil properties and tree growth, we investigated them in second-generation Hinoki cypress sites, where soil investigation and tree census were conducted fifty years ago in the age of first generation. In these site soil erosion would not happen according to the analysis values of surface soil organic carbon. The amount of surface (0-20cm) exchangeable Ca (calcium) and Mg (magnesium) significantly decreased in comparison with the data fifty years ago. However tree growth did not slow down.
