Research Abstract |
We evaluated the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors (obesity, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking, and chronic kidney disease (CKD)) and medical expenditures using data of 10899 Japanese National Health Insurance beneficiaries aged less than 75 years (mean, 58.7 years). Mean medical expenditure was higher in participants who had cardiovascular risk factors than those had no risk factor. In this cohort, 12.9% and 6.4% of total medical expenditures were attributable to participants who had hypertension and CKD, respectively.
