Research Abstract |
Radiation-induced salivary gland hypofunction might be treated by regenerating blood vessels using cell transfer therapy. Then, we examined the availability of dental pulp cells (DPCs) which could be used as a cell source of endothelial cells. As a result, dental pulp cells contained cells retaining endothelial functions. Our results show that radiation-induced salivary hypofunction is partially reverted by transplantation of endothelial cell-induced DPCs. For these reasons, DPCs could be used as a cell source for the treatment of salivary gland hypofunction.
