Research Abstract |
In this study, autolysin genes have been identified from oral streptococci. We found that AtlA slightly bound to type I collagen and did not bind to dextran. Furthermore, Asp655 and Asp747 were critical for lytic activity in Streptococcus criceti AtlA. Finally, the four studied autolysins failed to lyse cells of Streptococcus oralis ATCC 10557.
