Research Abstract |
In this study, questionnaires concerning placebo use were administered to both nurses and psychiatrists working in Japanese psychiatric setting in order to,explore how to use placebo ethically. Almost all the participants have experienced using placebo, but much less still continue to use it. Many participants have positive attitudes towards placebo because it causes no adverse side-effects, nor drug addiction, while few responded negatively because it is unethical. It is concluded that obtaining informed consent at some point in time of treatment is crucial to use placebo ethically.
