Research Abstract |
FAIMS/MS which combines an atmospheric ionization mass spectrometer with FAIMS (Field Asymmetric wave form Ion mobility Spectrometry) has been developed. As samples for FAIMS/MS system, atmospheric cluster ions were generated by discharges in ambient air as well as in purified air containing SO2. Diffusion voltage and compensation voltage to separate atmospheric cluster ions were explored, but optimum voltages have not been determined. As a result, the ability of FAIMS to separate atmospheric clusters and nanoparticles has not been demonstrated.
