Research Abstract |
In this research, we conducted linguistic fieldwork in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, and studied the languages Sadri and Bhojpuri. These languages have been considered to be in dialect relationship. However, study of their verbal systems revealed that they should rather be treated as different languages. This result requires us to reconsider the grouping of the so-called Bihari languages, which have been treated as a subgroup of Indo-Aryan languages.
