Research Abstract |
I researched into the history of national language teaching in Japanese primary school during World War Two. There were two currents of thought in teaching reading. One was the Hermeneutical Reading Theory (HRT). The other was the Physical Reading Theory (PRT). HRT was made use of metaphors. Metaphorical and paradoxical reading stirred up the people to breaking actions. PRT had materialized into recitation and it deprived of critical thinking. PRT also build up the perseverance.
