Research Abstract

It has been well-known that abnormal prion protein is highly resistant against standard sterilization or chemical cleaning, and that high temperature-pressure or strong chemical treatment are required to sterilize its infectivity, however, these severe treatments are not applicable to some precision medical instrument, such as endoscopes. In this study, we investigated a capability of the enzyme, manganese peroxidase, to degrade and sterilize prion infectivity and tried to develop a new safely sterilization agent for precision medical instruments.
