Research Abstract |
Endoplasmic reticulum stress was induced in gingival tissue of orally periodontopathic bacterium infected mice. Administration of chemical chaperone,4-phenylbutyric acid, significantly inhibited alveolar bone resorption in the infected mice. In addition, 4-phenylbutyric acid inhibited osteoclastogenesis in vitro. Our findings suggest that endoplasmic reticulum stress involves osteoclastogenesis during alveolar bone resorption in the progression of periodontal disease.
