Research Abstract |
In Hif2a+/- mice, osteoarthritis was markedly inhibited. In Col2a1-CreERT2;Hif2a-f/f mice, similar results were obtained. In contrast, articular cartilage degradation was accelerated in Col2a1-CreERT2;Hif1a-f/f mice, indicating opposite functions of HIF1A and HIF2A in articular cartilage. Further analyses revealed that HIF1A suppressed expression of catabolic factors.
