Research Abstract |
Striga hermonthica, a root parasitic weed, is a potential biotic constraint to upland rice production in Sub-Saharan Africa. Striga resistance of 18 NERICA varieties was evaluated in three screening tests. Among the 18 varieties, NERICA5 exhibited high resistance. NERICA4, a widely adopted cultivar, was evaluated as a susceptible variety. Under the growth conditions in Sudan, frequent irrigation caused poor growth of NERICA4.
