Research Abstract |
Defects in insulin secretion by decreasing pancreatic β-cell mass are frequently observed in patients with type 2 diabetes in eastern country. We have demonstrated that male sexual hormone (testosterone) enhanced the proliferation of β-cellthrough androgen receptor (AR). The growth stimulating effects of testosterone was diminished under high glucose conditions, which decreased AR protein. We also found that S-equol, which is produced from the soy isoflavone daidzein, enhanced β-cell growth.
