Research Abstract |
We studied the effectiveness of anti-inflammatory therapeutic approaches against severe lung infections. Legionella induced necrotic cell death with releasing inflammatory mediator, HMGB1,via cathepsin B activation. Cathepsin B inhibitor or recombinant thrombomodulin improved the inflammatory findings and weight changes in the mouse model of severe Legionella infection. Thrombomodulin also contributed to the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus lung infection
